About Lesson

Emotions are powerful — but not enemies

Emotions are part of being human.
Even great leaders feel:

  • fear
  • anger
  • frustration
  • disappointment

The difference is how they respond.

Emotions carry information

Each emotion sends a message:

  • Anger → something feels unfair
  • Fear → something feels risky
  • Sadness → something was lost
  • Excitement → something matters

A leader listens to emotions before acting.

The leadership pause (expanded)

When emotions rise, leaders practice the Leadership Pause:

  1. Pause — stop yourself from reacting immediately
  2. Name — identify the feeling (“I feel angry”)
  3. Think — ask why you feel this way
  4. Choose — pick an action aligned with your values

This pause can prevent regret, conflict, and damage.
