About Lesson
Why emotions hijack speech
Strong emotions make the brain:
- react faster than it thinks
- focus on winning, not understanding
- exaggerate problems
Under emotional stress, words become sharp or careless.
Reason protects dignity
Reason does not erase emotion.
Reason guides emotion.
A leader asks:
- “What am I feeling?”
- “Why am I feeling this?”
- “What response reflects my values?”
This process prevents regret.
Choosing response over reaction
Reaction is automatic.
Response is intentional.
Leadership grows when students learn to pause between feeling and speaking.
