About Lesson

What students often think leadership is

When students hear the word leader, many imagine:

  • Presidents
  • CEOs
  • Class presidents
  • Famous athletes or influencers
  • Someone who gives orders

This idea is incomplete.

Leadership is not a position you are handed.
It is a role you earn through behavior.

What leadership actually means

At its core, leadership is:

The ability to influence others in a positive way.

That influence can be small or large:

  • A smile that calms someone down
  • A decision that protects fairness
  • A word that gives someone courage

You don’t need permission to lead.
You need choice and responsibility.

Leadership vs. Being the boss

Being the Boss

Being a Leader

Tells people what to do

Helps people do their best

Wants control

Takes responsibility

Focuses on authority

Focuses on trust

Thinks “me first”

Thinks “we matter”

True leaders are trusted — not feared.
