About Lesson

Key Concepts: roles, responsibility, expectations, belonging

People have many roles, and each role teaches us something different. Students explore how they switch roles depending on where they are and who they are with. Understanding these roles helps students see how they contribute to the world — even if their role feels small.
This lesson also helps students see that roles come with responsibilities. Being part of a family, team, or community means that others depend on us in ways we don’t always notice.

More Real-Life Examples:

  • Home role: Helping wash dishes or taking care of a pet shows responsibility and care for shared spaces.
  • School role: Turning in work on time helps teachers plan lessons and reduces stress for the classroom.
  • Friend role: Listening when a friend is upset helps build trust and connection.
  • Community role: Participating in neighborhood clean-ups keeps parks safe and enjoyable for everyone.
  • Online role: Being respectful in group chats contributes to a healthier digital community.

Students learn that roles can change — someone who is shy at school might be a leader at home. Someone who struggles in one setting may thrive in another. This helps students understand they are more than one label.
