Remembering Mr. Russell

A Teacher, Historian, and Friend

Tribute to Mr. Russell Gmirkin

At Zenith Study Lab, our mission has always been to nurture curiosity and support young learners as they grow. Along that journey, our teachers have been the heart of what we do. Today, we pause to honor the life and legacy of one of those teachers—Mr. Russell Gmirkin—whose recent passing leaves a deep absence in our community.

On his heavenly throne, God smiled as He welcomed one who understood Him best: Mr. Russell, a man of vast knowledge, amicable and approachable, with an independent and innovative mind. He was a true model among mentors and teachers. From ancient papyrus scrolls to Eastern philosophy classics, his wisdom and indelible footprints remain. His actions have inspired future generations in their exploration and study, standing as a testament to the best of Practical Learning and Holistic Education, especially within the philosophy of Zenith Study Lab in America.

Mr. Russell was not only a dedicated teacher but also an accomplished historian and independent researcher. His scholarship bridged education and academia, showing students that history is not just a collection of dates and facts, but a living conversation across centuries. His groundbreaking work on the Greek sources behind the Hebrew Bible shaped discussions around the world. Books such as Berossus and Genesis, Manetho and Exodus, and Plato and the Creation of the Hebrew Bible reflected his rare ability to weave rigorous scholarship with original insight.

Yet beyond the classroom and his research, what we will remember most is his generosity of spirit. He had a gift for making complex ideas accessible, meeting students where they were, and encouraging them to discover their own love of learning. His patience, kindness, and steady presence made him a beloved mentor to many. His knowledge was like an obelisk—ancient and profound, yet ever-renewing. And the deep understanding and enduring companionship he shared with his wife, Ms. Carolyn, offered the most beautiful interpretation of how to love and be loved in our era.

Though we deeply regret not being able to fully complete the revival of Holistic Education through Practical Learning, Mr. Russell’s contributions will be forever remembered by all. His published work continues to guide scholars. His teaching lives on in the minds of students he inspired. And here at Zenith Study Lab, his example reminds us why we do what we do: to spark curiosity, foster understanding, and pass knowledge from one generation to the next.

Please allow us to conclude with an ancient Eastern proverb:

“When establishing a viewpoint, consider only what is right or wrong, not how it differs from the majority. If it is right, the view, even if held by few, cannot be easily swayed. If it is wrong, even if thousands agree, do not follow their voice.”

We are grateful for the time we had with him and extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew him. May we continue to honor his memory by carrying forward the same passion for history, inquiry, and education that he so deeply embodied.

R.I.P., Mr. Russell.
